Elijah Craig Small Batch is a product from the Heaven Hill distillery and is considered a Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey (meaning this product has been aged for at LEAST two years.) The story told is that Elijah Craig was the first person to begin charring the inside of the barrels used for whiskey. Thus giving whiskey it's color and characteristics. This has not been proven but that does not stop Heaven Hill from adding "Father of Bourbon" and "1789" to the Elijah Craig labels.

On the nose, I get sweetness, honey, caramel, vanilla, and cinnamon. The nose reminds me of a fancy, vanilla-scented spray or air freshener. There is a gentle transition from the nose to the palate, with those same notes carrying over. The only difference is the cinnamon spice and oak notes are turned up a notch. The finish is shorter than expected with those cinnamon and oak notes continuing to linger.

When I think of a quintessential bourbon, this would definitely make the list. As an experienced bourbon drinker, I wouldn't mind this in my glass at all. At the same point, if someone were just getting into bourbon and wanted to know where to start, this would also be on that list. For the under $30 category, there aren't many tat can compete with this, in my opinion.
