I received this bourbon as a gift from my AMAZING WIFE but was able to try it beforehand at the 2019 Big Red Liquors Bourbon Expo. It was definitely my favorite bourbon that day. That made me wonder how I would score it. So here it goes!

With this proof it’s not surprising that the first thing I smelled was alcohol. As I kept going back, I picked up more fruit notes. I got sweet cherries, raspberries and a little citrus. Have you ever gone to the movie theater and had the Cherry Flavored Mini Twizzlers? That’s what this reminds me of. You might find it hard to get past the smell of alcohol, though. This would definitely be one of those bottles that I would suggest airing out.

The cherry and raspberry definitely came through on the taste for me. Not much more was picked up. A hint of orange peel. I noticed that I did not taste the typical bourbon tasting notes. I did not pick up any caramel or vanilla.

For the finish I got pepper and spice. I also got that warm hug but that was expected with such a high-proof bourbon. It didn’t last as long as I would have liked. As I mentioned before, the flavors fall off in the finish as well.
